Researchers 'Discover' that James Bond Prefers Brunettes

Bond, James Bond preffers burnettes. Some researchers clearly have way too much time on their hands. In this case, they filled that time deducing the sexual preferences of James Bond based on the 98 female characters he had sexual contact with and the 97 he didn't in the first 20 Bond movies.

If you must know, he prefers brunettes with American accents who carry weapons.  A cynic (who, us?) might conclude that given the prevalence of brunettes, the importance of the U.S. market, and the fact that it's an action movie might have just a little to do with Bond's choice of bed-mate.

The study goes on to explain that three-quarters of the women in the films were white, eight percent were Asian, and seven percent were black with a handful of Arabs. Life expectancy for the female characters was poor, with one in five not surviving to the end of the movie (including many who had sexual contact with Bond).

In the more recent films, women's hair length has decreased while their promiscuity has increased. Their roles have become larger, but are still stereotyped.

As owners of every Bond DVD (except the last one, which which is just too bad to buy), we could have told you all of that and saved a lot of work. In fact, had the article not been published in a scholarly  journal, we would have mistaken it for a publicity hit timed to boost the DVD sales of the latest, and worst, Bond film.  Even more surprising than the total lack of news in this story is the number of outlets that ran it anyway (including CarnalNation).

P.S. Did we mention that the last Bond movie was awful?
