Sex Advice from Around the World: Threesomes, the Pill, Food as a Sex Toy and More
Sex advice is a staple of newspapers world wide. Now thanks to the wonders of the web we can bring you a round up of the advice, good, bad and meaningless, given across the globe.
In the good category, from the Caribbean, the Jamaica Observer deals with the sticky subject of Nocturnal Emissions. In the All Woman column Donna Hussey-Whyte explains how to talk to your son about wet dreams. The advice is frank, clear, accurate and, unfortunately, not the sort of writing we see in the US.
In the femail section of the UK's Daily Mail Rowan Pelling dives into the pill vs condoms debate. Comparing the question to Alien vs Predator Pelling unfortunately manages to give no useful advice on how to make a choice between the two. Instead the column gets sidetracked with tales to teenagers throwing used condoms out of the window, only to find the offending rubber hanging on a phone wire the next morning. It would have been a meaningless article had it stopped there, but after a short detour advising the questioner to ask a professional, Pelling goes on to suggest "natural family planning" by charting the womans cycle. While this can be effective if used 100% of the time it's failure rate in the real world puts the advice squarely into the bad category,.
For more useful information, including some detail on the pill, it's back to Jamaica where the Doctor's Advice column in the Daily Gleaner covers a wide range of topics with clear, fact based answers.
In Australia, the ninemsn TV network has expert advice from Dr Gabrille Morrissey. The good doctor covers a wide range of topics including how, or how not, to turn a threesome fantasy into reality.
Threesomes seem popular down under and the New Zealand site getfrank, which bills itself and New Zealand's Online Men's Lifestyle Magazine, takes on the subject in some detail. If you decide to go ahead withe that threesome official "sexpert" Sarah Gibson gives sound advice on rules of engagement and not pushing a partner into an experience they don't want.
Back in the UK the Daily Mirror takes a question from a teacher (female) who has just slept with a student (18) and is wondering about the consequences. Dr Stoppard advices seeking legal council, a good move in our view.
Food a a sex toy, saran wrap lingerie, building the tension through the day, making a sex date and watching porn together are all suggestion in Marjorie Ingall's Sex tips for a tried-and-tested relationship on the South Afrrican site IOL. Ingall's suggestion give lots of options and she finishes with the sound advice "don't be so judgmental. Things that aren't cool (like your mom's advice, salads made with a chunk of lettuce and movies starring The Rock) can be terrific. And some things that sound unpleasant actually are. Like, say, wearing plastic wrap instead of lingerie. "
