Does Bill O'Reilly Have George Tiller's Blood on His Hands?

Kansas resident Scott Roeder was arrested yesterday as a suspect in the murder of Dr. George Tiller. He has yet to be charged for the murder, but whether or not he turns out to be the man, whether or not he's convicted, there's one thing to remember: George Tiller's murderer was not alone.  Not in the sense that there were individual co-conspirators, or that someone helped him track down Tiller or buy the gun, but in that whatever happens to Roeder, there are hundreds more ready to take his place. As others have noted, one of the most grotesque things to happen in the aftershocks from the killing was watching Operation Rescue making crocodile tears about Tiller's death. For years, Operation Rescue and others on the right carefully laid the ground for Tiller to be shot down in the lobby of his church. Exhibit A is the list of Tweets that we posted yesterday and some of the more hateful comments that followed. More disturbing, though, is Exhibit B, which comes from the supposedly responsible corporate media. Articles on Salon.com and DailyKos describe how Bill O'Reilly attacked Tiller on 29 different episodes of "The O'Reilly Factor" since 2005, invariably labelling him as "Tiller the Baby Killer." O'Reilly has repeatedly claimed that Tiller would "kill a baby" for $5,000. In the DailyKos video below the cut, O'Reilly makes outrageous claims about Tiller's mercenary murderousness. In one clip, he says that "If you wanna kill a baby, you hire Tiller, you gotta pay him $5,000 up front and he'll kill the baby." Tiller "is executing babies about to be born," O'Reilly says in another clip, and "George Tiller can kill a baby a half-hour before the baby is supposed to be birthed for no reason whatsoever other than the mother has a pain in her foot." Tiller's murder becomes a little less shocking in this context; when you realize that there's a whole industry devoted to spewing lies like this about medical professionals and the women they serve, it's only shocking that we don't get murders like this every month. Video after the jump.

Bill O'Reilly and Dr. Tiller

Short answer... yes, he and Randall Terry, et al - have Dr. Tiller's blood on their hands as the murder was a direct political action meant to stop something they could not stop through legal/legislative means.

How about the 60,000 humans Tiller murdered?

I will not morn this monster's death. He murdered babies 24 hours before due date. He also killed them if they were unfortunate to be born alive after a botched abortion. It is unfortunate that Tiller was murdered before he got to repent. He died the way he lived, violently. I think we all need to pray for this man's family. And I also hope they find peace.

24 hours before due date?

You do know you're talking shit, right? As in pure, unadulterated crap? Get yourself an education.

I mourn your lack of compassion

Your lack of compassion for the end of a life is essentially the problem. I feel sorry for you; it takes a certain amount of soullessness to be able to hold as much hate as you seem to. There are no monsters: Only people who make choices that, to some, seem horrible. For you, Tiller is that person. For many others, his killer is. Beyond that, however, only the man who killed the doctor is legally liable for what he has done. If you believe in America and democracy at all, that is what you must realize and accept.

O'Reilly is hypocrite

He puts on this hypocritical "act" of caring about unborn babies... You don't hear a peep out of him once they're born and delivered into his Catholic cult to be raped and abused. O'Reilly is a degenerate himself who needs to shut his mouth. The blood of Tiller is on his hands and he's complicit in his silence to the continual rape and abuse of children by the Catholic Church.

I bet once the female babies are born he just can't wait to get at them and harrass them sexually with his Loofah!

The issue is simply more complicated

Interesting. I think that hypocracy exists on all sides of the debate.

The Catholic Church has a general rate of abuse of %17 (a number I got from atheists at the Richard Dawkins forum)
Abuse in the general population for woman exists at a rate of %25-35 for women by the time they turn 18

Vanessa Hudgens is basically a child porn star and Disney continues to sell her films knowing full well that men across the country sexually objectify her...

Oprah does a show on child pornography and shows a picture that has made it's way across every state in 24 hours...

Yet somehow, The Catholic Church is seen as the problem?

Our problems with sexuality reach far beyond religion. As much as I am annoyed by Bill O'Reilly (and basically any inflammatory television personality), I don't think he is the reason for this. I don't like abortion, because I don't like the idea of a society that believes that women's self-determination = paying a pharmeceutical company to alter my reproductive system - when self-control is free and well within my grasp.

Neither do I think that a society that fails to provide on-site day care and a workplace that is hostile to pregnant women and motherhood, yet provides free surgery to any woman who decides to 'cut it out' and join the ranks of a capitalistic system built on exploitation? I don't believe in war, and I don't believe in violence and I pray for the soul of Dr. Tiller and his Murderer. I don't feel that every Christian including big mouth O'Reilly should be blamed for this. We have enough bigotry in this world...and we don't need more of it.
