Florida Now Safe For Goats & Jesus
Honestly, I’m not making this up.
On the one hand, the Florida Senate has voted 38-0 to criminalize sex with animals. At the very same time, it’s about to issue license plates depicting the crucified head of Jesus.
Each of these is a nutty idea—supported by large numbers of voters. I’m not sure which would be more offensive: seeing my neighbor making love with his goat, or seeing my neighbor’s car sporting a government-issued “I believe” license plate.
Wait, of course I know: it’s the license plate.
Florida lawmakers have their priorities upside down. Floridians don’t need to be protected from the occasional ultra-lonely guy trying to get a goat’s penis down his throat. They need protection from religious zealots trying to jam Jesus down everyone’s throat. The lonely guy’s penis may be unwashed and unwanted, but it’s no threat to our way of life. Government endorsement of religion is. If, that is, your way of life honors the Constitution.
The anti-bestiality law is a pet project of State Senator Nan Rich. She cited exactly 2 Florida cases of human-animal sex in the last 4 years. State Senator Bill Heller sponsored the bill last year, calling bestiality “torture,” “animal cruelty,” and animal “abuse.” He’s obviously thinking of animal rape, not animal sex.
Indeed, State Senator Rich justified the law saying that those who abuse animals are likely to—what else?—do the same to kids. It’s an intuitively attractive idea dripping with opportunism and hypocrisy. The actual link is between people who deliberately hurt animals and those who deliberately hurt children. The tiny number of people who have sex with animals don’t fit into either group.
But what politician in their right mind is going to vote against either bill: criminalizing bestiality or legally endorsing Jesus? This tyranny of the (obsessed) majority is not what democracy is about.
Jesus hasn’t commented on how he feels about car owners blaspheming with his picture on their rear bumper. But do you think animals prefer to be killed and eaten, or “abused” through sex with a human lover?

you a sheepfucker or something
you can't have consensual sex with animals you sicko!
and who cares if people want jesus on their license plate
i think people should be free to put whoever they want on their license plate
i'll have mine with micheal jackson please :p
The obvious response is to
The obvious response is to get an identical plate issued with the wording just slightly changed to "I do not believe"
the writer obviously had not
the writer obviously had not made the connection of the higher moral code of Jesus results in prohibition of sex with animals.
It is clear as crystal, yet not seen! ( God has chosen the foolishness of this world to shame the wise) .
I think you need to reassess
I think you need to reassess the situation before you call having a bumper sticker "RAMMING JESUS DOWN EVERYONE'S THROAT".
Nobody is trying to jam Jesus
Nobody is trying to jam Jesus down your throat. This is no different than driving down the road and seeing a cross in front of a church. The government isn't forcing YOU to get a license plate with Jesus on it, so stop whining.
There is no god.
To the defenders of the jesus plate a question - would you feel that same about a plate that said:
"There is no god"
there ISN't a god
To me this wouldn't be any different than having a license plate with a picture of Santa Claus on it.
There is no God. The people need to stop putting blind, and borderline insane, faith into a fairytale that holds absolutely NO factual backing.
Wake the fuck up already!
Well said
I also notice that Florida sees fit to offer anti-abortion "choose life" plates, but offers no alternative such as "i support a woman's right to choose".
Nor is there a plate for
Nor is there a plate for helping the poor from any of these pro Jesus idiots.
I saw this through
I saw this through stumbleupon and was at first confused by the position of the writer. Now that I see that this is a sex-oriented website, I understand the position presented for bestiality. I don't intend to have sex with goats, but I don't really care if someone else wants to do it. Considering how rare this act likely is, the law was most likely a grab for political brownie points, and I doubt that it will make much of an impact on any bestiality that already occurs.
As for the license plate, I myself am an atheist. I use this position to objectively observe any religious debate or affair, and I am generally unbiased (and apathetic overall) about whatever is being discussed. I can understand that the author is offended that the government is essentially endorsing religion, something strictly forbidden in the Constitution, but I'm fairly certain that the Jesus plates, like other plates, are optional, and that a Florida driver doesn't have to get those plates. Now, if the Jesus plates were the only ones available from the State of Florida, then you would have a valid argument. Until that is the case, let the Jesus plates be free.
None of you have any right
None of you have any right whatsoever to decide on someone else's sexual preferences. Even if it's farm animals. We haven't even figured out human rights. Why the fuck should we care about animal rights?
The state should also not endorse Jesus on a license plate.
Religion and stupidity are the new plagues on America. I've also heard that the higher a person's IQ, the more likely they are to not believe in god. Is this a coincidence? Unlikely.
The religious people in this country hate science because they know it will expose them all as frauds in the long run. It's truly depressing that I have to live in a country that takes pride in being fucking idiots.
Evolve or perish.
Wow. Gotta love the sudden
Wow. Gotta love the sudden influx of comments.
The fact that the Jesus plates are optional isn't the problem. They're still something religious paid for by the government, and regardless of how harmless it is it's still unconstitutional.
Besides, they're already thinking of taking it back because of the folks already signing up for "NAILED" and "BRB LOL" vanity plates with Jesus's picture.
Awesome
Beastiality is fucked up, but to each his own. Who gives a fuck. And I know it already may not seem so, but I'm a Christian, and I just choose not to follow Christianity the way everyone else does. As for me, I'm not afraid of science at all, and I actually believe in evolution, and am open to anyone elses thoughts. And the license plates, they are just license plates. I get it's unconstitutional, but is this really the biggest thing we have to worry about? Get the fuck over it.
On the other hand...
If aliens came to earth and bred the human race for food, would you rather be eaten or had sex with?
Its not an imposition. I may
Its not an imposition. I may believe in Jesus, but i don't tell you too. I find it funny that you never hear of Christians or Jews or Buddhists complaining about the Flying Spaghetti Monster bumper stickers, but the people who place those sarcastic logos on their cars constantly complain about the word "god" appearing anywhere as if they were scared of it. If your so sure there is no god there is nothing to be afraid of. So shut up about it.
Religion is alway an impostition. ALWAYS!!!!!
Yes there is something to be afraid of.
Religious retards try and fuckup every single thing they touch. They try and cram their retardation down everyones throat.
If the RR's had their way we would be living exactly the same as the islamo wackos except they ready from a different bullshit book.
The religious have intelligence measured in single digits, only a drooling retard believes in fairytales and bullshit that doesn't exist excect in their deranged sub human brain.
Evolution isn't done...... The religious are still here.
An excellent commentary on
An excellent commentary on stupidity in the Florida legislature. One the one hand, passing a law which will have no impact whatsoever, and merely criminalises an infrequent behavior with no victims*, and on the other hand a clearly unconstitutional state recognition of a religion.
Florida: land of idiots.
* For those who will immediate jump on this, there are already laws in Florida targeting animal abuse, correct? If you starve or injure an animal in Florida you are already guilty of a criminal offense, correct? Why, then, do you need a law that specifically targets bestiality? If the animal is injured, prosecute under your current laws. If the animal is not injured (and is, in most cases, a willing participant) then what exactly is your problem?
The bill died
The bill to allow the license plates was voted down according to beliefnet:
http://blog.beliefnet.com/news/2009/05/bill-to-allow-jesus-license-pl.php
And just as well. It was a silly, unconstitutional idea.
Word has it, though, that it may be resurrected in a few days.
How does bestiality have no
How does bestiality have no victims? Animals can't give consent. To me, that's like saying sex with unconscious women is fine. You can't always tell if you're hurting an animal, or frightening it. If the animal is the one doing the penetrating as opposed to the one being penetrated, I guess it's not quite as bad - since at least they have some control. I still think it's wrong either way. Why shouldn't animal rights be important?
Stupidity affects the religious and non-religious alike. Religion isn't a plague - extremists, and idiots are. Either kind. I think part of being intelligent is being able to keep an open mind, and have a calm, reasonable discussion even with opposing viewpoints. The ability to do that is why I believe in both God and evolution.
I'm sure they exist, but I know very few people whom I would consider intelligent who are atheists. I also know a lot of religious people who I would consider blind, unintelligent sheep. Neither side has a corner on that market.
Continuation of 2:57 PM: I
Continuation of 2:57 PM:
I don't think I can edit here...I agree there wasn't cause for a law specifically targeting beastiality. It can be processed as 6:14 AM said.
There is no need for
There is no need for anti-bestiality laws not because it's okay, but because it's already covered under anti-animal abuse laws.
As for these government-endorsed license plates; they are a clear violation of the First Amendment of the United States, yes, but what does Florida's constitution say?
For the record, I'm completely in support of keeping religion and government as far apart as possible. We've got enough stupidity in government without bringing superstition and mythology into the mix.
Dear author, please, don't be
Dear author, please, don't be on my team.
I too don't want the government making license plates that show a picture of the Koran and say "Allahu Akbar." Oops I meant to say Moses and the lyrics to the dradel song. Damnit! What did they want to put on a license plate again? Some religious thing or something. Doesn't matter. My tax dollars are not meant for this. If one can avidly read the bible, one can also read the constitution and review the parts about seperation of church and state.
I am all for religion. Just don't have it run by the government. Republicans should be all for this. Firstly, if they don't want healthcare run by the government, just think of what the government would do with Christianity! Secondly, what would happen should another religion, other than your own, grow to far greater popularity? Don't think it could happen? Just look at how much society has changed in the last 100 years. Women can vote for goodness sake! Unthinkable 100 years ago. Nuff said.
Now why would anyone convolute that pretty simple logic by being against legislation that prohibits animal sex? Oh, wait. I know. Has anyone checked out what kind of livestock the author owns?
Look people, the author isn't
Look people, the author isn't into sex with animals he is saying that its a waste of lawmakers time to write laws over two cases in four years. However, forcing non religious people to have a license plate depicting someone they don't believe in is "forcing it down our throats". How would Christians feel if lawmakers decided to have the license plate say "Florida, the atheist state", it would probably be a big deal then.
florida plates
i think i would be offended more by goatfucking.
seems like some are confused, first someone who fucks a goat is not call a sheepfucker unless of course they do both, second some seem to think the issue is bumper stickers, it is not. it is about state lic plates. are there fl pates available that say i'm a jew? or i believe in buddha. i do believe in jesus . i also believe in freedom from other people's religion, and separation of church and state. are there lic plates in any state with micheal jackson?
I wonder if so many people
I wonder if so many people under the "anonymous" heading navigated here by some web-search about beastiality? If so, please direct yourselves to the article about absexuality--it'll be more useful to you.
Indeed, State Senator Rich
Indeed, State Senator Rich justified the law saying that those who abuse animals are likely to—what else?—do the same to kids.
To be fair, though, if they abuse animals, some of those animals maybe be kids. Last I checked anyway, young goats were still animals....
In all seriousness, though, in the interest of the separation of church and state, the "I Believe" license plate is unconstitutional. If they had one for every religion ever, maybe I could think about supporting it, but the state is really discriminating against people of other religions. After all, I can't get Buddha's head on a license plate, can I?
As far as the bestiality law is concerned, I think that there does need to be some concern for the well-being of animals in general, but I'm not sure if explicitly outlawing bestiality is the way to accomplish that. If the animal is doing the fucking, for instance, I don't think you can say it's being taken advantage of. Likewise, if your stereotypical dog is just licking up some stereotypical peanut butter, you may be running the risk of getting your nuts bitten off, but I can't really believe that would be traumatic for the dog. It may be the government's responsibility to protect animals, but it's definitely not the government's responsibility to protect you from yourself. I say, as long as the animal has control of the situation (isn't being held down/tied up), you're good to go. It's not what I'm into, but who am I to tell someone else what they should be into?
