Dutch Park Officially Designates Gay Cruising Areas
Agence-France Presse reports that the municipal government of Slotervaart, the Netherlands, southwest of Amsterdam, has posted official signs designating gay cruising areas in De Oeverlanden park. The park is apparently a cruising spot of some renown throughout Europe. Municipal spokeswoman Manon Koffijberg said the signs were placed in specific areas as a public service: "If you don't want to be confronted by a vision of that sort, the signs allow you to avoid specific areas." While having sex in a public place is illegal under Dutch law, the practice has become so commonplace and gone on for so long in the park that it is now considered "gedoog," the Dutch word for tolerated. All areas of the park now have special designations, including children's play areas, public beaches, dog runs, and now gay play areas.
Well, if you can't beat 'em, then let them beat off?
