Former Bishop, Now President, Fathered Children While "Celibate"

The President of Paraguay, Fernando Lugo, has been having a hard time of it lately. The former bishop has had three women come forth and claim that he fathered children with them while he was still a member of the clergy—and therefore supposedly celibate.  Lugo is insisting that he won't resign despite calls for him to step down, and that he will retain office until 2013 despite what he calles "rumors of instability and conspiracy." Lugo has acknowledged that he is the father of one of the children, a two-year-old boy, but hasn't commented on the other two. The oldest of the children is six years old. At a press conference today, he asked for forgiveness, saying "I am a human being, and therefore nothing is foreign to me. Asking forgiveness for these circumstances, I want to stress that my version will always be the truth."
