Heart Attack Survivors Fear Sex Will Kill Them
Regular sex may reduce the risk of heart attacks for men – but it seems that once they’ve had one, they’re afraid of getting back into bed, the BBC reports.
Heart attack survivors seem to be avoiding sex because they’re afraid it will kill them – after all, we’ve all see the movies in which men die in their lovers’s arms.
However, this sort of scenario happens very rarely in real life, and experts say that survivors can begin having sex again once they are capable of moderate exercise.
American scientist Dr Stacy Tessler Lindau, who lead the study which the BBC report is based on, said:
The likelihood of dying during sexual intercourse, even among people who have had a heart attack, is really small.

She also stressed the importance of doctors speaking with their patients about resuming sexual activity after a heart attack. She said:
Most heart attack patients are sexually active. But for the most part, physicians just aren't discussing this topic with their patients after a heart attack. ... You can't predict by looking at someone if they are sexually active. Patients regard sex as an important part of their life, and they think it's appropriate for doctors to raise it as an issue.
