Robot Marries Tokyo Couple

The Japanese have been making racy headlines in recent months for their famous penis festivals and sex-themed hotels complete with bondage furniture. They have also been making significant technological advancements positioning themselves as a world leader in advanced robotics. So it should come as no surprise that a Japanese robot married man and woman in downtown Tokyo over the weekend.

The Associated Press reports that the first robot-officiated wedding ceremony took place at a Tokyo restaurant under the direction of the I-Fairy, a four-foot robot with flashing eyes and plastic pigtails. The seated robot wore a flower wreath and responded to the computerized commands of a human hiding behind a curtain a few feet away from the altar.

"This was a lot of fun. I think that Japanese have a strong sense that robots are our friends. Those in the robot industry mostly understand this, but people mainly want robots near them that serve some purpose," said the bride, Satoko Inouye.

The role of robots in daily life continues to increase with experts predicting that hotels could be entirely serviced by mechanical staff by 2050. Some even believe that robot sex workers may represent the future of travel of tourism and the latest sex robot offers an array of personalities and claims to act as both a lover and friend.

A robot wedding officiant may not be for everyone given that the I-Fairy is limited in its mobility and simple capacity to repeat preprogrammed sounds and movements. However, with a groom who works as a professor of robotics and a bride employed by the robot’s manufacturer, Kokoro, this nuptial threesome may just be a match made in robot heaven.
