Courtney Trouble is the self-described “Maven of Queer Porn.” directing for, Reel Queer Productions, one of three lines in Good Vibration's video production and distribution company, Good Releasing, which also features Pleasure Ed and Heart Core.
Trouble blazed an early internet trail when she created her own XXX cottage industry by founding NoFauxxx.com in 2002 in order to present “alt, gay, lesbian, straight, trans, kink, and BBW content. It’s sexy, artsy, entertaining, all-inclusive, and totally DIY,” says Trouble on the site, named Best of the Bay 2009 by The San Francisco Guardian. And it enjoys the distinction of being the oldest running queer porn site on the Internet.
Trouble's mission with NoFauxxx promised “arousal, all-inclusive casting, safer sex and consent, breaking stereotypes, female-friendly perspective, trans-friendly, respectful, and high art.” Her films for Good Releasing are a continuation of that mission. Her titles thus far—Roulette, Speakeasy, Nostalgia, and Seven Minutes in Heaven: Coming Out!—are unbridled raunch, revealing San Francisco's genderqueer underground in all its mind-boggling glory. There's not one scene that feels forced or contrived; it's wall-to-wall refreshingly enthusiastic sex!
Jackie Strano, Chief Operating Officer of Good Vibrations, has called Courtney “irreverent, sexy, raw San Francisco energy” and she expresses her excitement about the future of sex-positive porn such as Trouble's: “I think there’s a misconception that 'feminist porn' or 'pleasure-centered' porn is inherently not hot. We’re proving exactly the opposite: that genuine, enthusiastic fucking is one of the hottest things you can capture on screen.”
Trouble's recent DVD Seven Minutes in Heaven is Good Releasing's best-selling porn DVD, an impressive feat in and of itself, but even more so given its apparent “niche” appeal.
Good Vibrations' online magazine asked Trouble how it felt to be nominated for an AVN Award. “I am Seventh Heaven-happy...” she told them, “and...I am absolutely floored that a no-budget DIY fuck film full of trannies, fatties, and queerions made it to the top. I am so thrilled at the amount of independent, queer, feminist, artistic, and downright brilliant people being recognized this year.” Trouble could be found at all the hottest parties during the annual Vegas convention, and tweeted her excitement: “Years and years of queer invisibility in porn has been shattered today thanks to @AVNAwards! This time, we were INVITED to crash the party.”
