According to a survey conducted by the travel website hostelbookers.com, Australians take the cake when it comes to lovemaking. Aussies received 10.7 percent of votes followed by the Italians who scored second place with 7.2 percent. The Brits took the bronze with 6.3 percent of votes while the French and Spanish rang in at 6 and 5.6 percent respectively. The Irish rounded out the bottom spot in tenth place with a mere 2.4 percent of best-lover votes.

While 31 percent of travellers claimed to have had one night stands, 77 percent of respondents reported that they practiced safer sex while vacationing. And though only 30 percent claimed to be looking for love during their travels, 15 percent met a long term partner while abroad. A total of 9 percent of survey respondents admitted to cheating on a partner during their holiday, but only 14 percent had sex in hostel dormitories suggesting that travellers are getting creative with where they get it on.

The Courier Mail also reports that methods of keeping in touch with friends and loved ones back home have evolved for contemporary hostellers. Email, Facebook and Skype have overtaken lettermail and postcards as the most popular methods for staying connected while exploring the world.
