Lambert Too Hot for ABC News, Cool for CBS
ABC's Good Morning America cancelled an appearance by Adam Lambert following his racy American Music Awards performance, and he was quickly snapped up by ABC's morning rival, CBS.
While singing his new song For Your Entertainment at the awards program, Lambert kissed a male keyboardist, fondled a dancer and had another dancer briefly stuff his face in Lambert's crotch. While the awards show garnered its highest ratings its had since 2002, ABC has reportedly received more than 1,500 complaints in response to the performance.
Lambert was to sing on Wednesday on GMA, but the network said on Tuesday that "we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning". Shortly after ABC's cancellation, CBS quickly announced on Tuesday that Lambert would appear on The Early Show on Wednesday morning both to perform and discuss the reaction to Sunday's appearance. Racy stills of Lambert's provocative performance were blurred by CBS, blocking the images of the singer simulating oral sex and kissing his keyboardist.
While women have often crossed the threshold regarding sexually provocative appearances on television - think Madonna kissing Britney Spears - Lambert's performance was perhaps the first time it has been done by an openly gay man. The singer said before Sunday's show that he was hoping to accomplish just that.
