Gay Marriage Ad from Ireland Makes Strong, Simple Argument

The Irish gay marriage lobbying group MarriageEquality has released a new ad that is taking the Internet by storm. Entitled "Sinead's Hand," the ad is simple, direct, and succinct. It may be one of the best arguments yet for gay marriage because it is so straightforward. In the video, a young man goes knocking on doors throughout Ireland asking permission to marry his girlfriend Sinead. At the end, the video asks how you'd like it if you had to ask 4 million people for permission to marry the one you love. Watch the video for yourself after the jump.

Just as civil marriage is

Just as civil marriage is defined by the electorate through our representatives - age of consent/parental permission, residency requirements, specifics issues about divorce/child support, etc., etc., - why should the gender of spouses be decided any OTHER way but by the choice of the electorate?

That's discrimination based

That's discrimination based on gender and most of those criteria were not decided by the electorate. No one is ever asked to vote on a straight person's marriage.
