Courtney Trouble’s latest film, Speakeasy, is scheduled for release at the end of this month, but alt/queer porn fans in the San Francisco Bay Area can catch an early screening of it on September 12th when it kicks off the Good Vibrations Erotic Film Festival. Like Trouble's recently popular Nostalgia, Speakeasy is also produced by Reel Queer Productions, and released by Good Vibes sister company, Good Releasing. Trouble's first film Roulette is also distributed by Good Releasing, but was produced by her own company No Fauux. In the true style of Trouble's vision, Speakeasy stars both queer and mainstream porn stars like Lorelei Lee, Jiz Lee, Dallas Fivestar and Billy Castro. Speakeasy is about a “mysterious detective with a heart of gold and a fist of honey who discovers an underground queer speakeasy. The film is filled to the brim with hedonism, topped with a cherry bomb, and shot in the style of classic film noir reminiscent of the 1940s.” Please view her recent video teaser to truly get excited for this film.
Good Vibes clearly understands the distinct style associated with alt porn since this kickoff event is exuding with the classic lust that is sure to set the stage for Trouble’s erotic film. Whether the weather on the night of Saturday the 12th is foggy and damp or unusually balmy, El Rio’s patio sets the perfect ambiance for the launch of Speakeasy. The evening will be hosted by the filmmaker herself with the assistance of the notorious Lusty Ladies dressed as cigarette girls selling Good Vibes’ finest toys while SF’s original queer burlesque troop The Diamond Daggers perform live. Oh yeah, and all this sexy fun is just $7!
CarnalNation has been fortunate to spend quite a bit of time with Courtney Trouble lately, and we have seen firsthand her dedication to following her mission of making obscene films that allow the genuine sexual desires of each performer to emerge. For Trouble, the term natural doesn’t represent physical attributes as some people might think. Although style and aesthetic are important to Trouble, alt porn for her isn’t simply about perfect bodies with beautiful tattoos. For her, the term “natural” represents an attitude or, as we in California like to say, a natural energy. It is seen as a honest expression of how people enjoy themselves sexually at the same time they are making money. Yes, despite what some people believe, this can happen simultaneously.
Due to the 'natural' emphasis of her films, Trouble prefers to view her movies as more documentary in style than pornographic, although she does not shy away from the term porn at all. She knows her films are aesthetically hot and that people get off on them, but she believes this is because performers are allowed to control their sexual desires and behaviors, choose lovers to perform with on film, and essentially are able to represent the way they truly like to get off. Real Queer Production's rules are based on what is important to the community that both Trouble and her performers are a part. This is what is meant by natural. I can’t help but think that this is why “amateur” porn has become so popular—the viewer is given an inside look into the sexual fantasies of others. I guess you’ll just have to come to El Rio on September 12 at 9pm to find out for yourself!
