Surveillance Video: Gay Couple vs. Mormon Security Guards
On Thursday, July 9, Derek Jones and his boyfriend Matt Aune were confronted by security guards from the Church of Latter Day Saints for a public display of affection (a kiss on the cheek and quick hug) as they crossed Main Street Plaza in Salt Lake City, UT. The couple claim that they were handcuffed, searched, and detained by the security guards until police arrived. Jones says that at one point he was even forced to the ground. Watch the newly released surveillance video of the encounter.
The gay men were cited for misdemeanor trespassing by the police; however, Salt Lake City prosecutors have declined to prosecute the case, calling the incident a "misunderstanding." Several kiss-in protests were held near Church of Latter Day Saints locations in Salt Lake City and San Diego. A nationwide kiss-in to protest homophobia has been scheduled for August 15 in several cities around the nation. Pucker up!

This is an amazing video , showing an amazing amount of effort to "enforce" the Mormon vision of sexual identity. Are you kidding me?

As a straight man, I'm totally befuddled by their "need" to inflict themselves on these kids.
As an ex marine, I'm suggesting the "security guards" are very fortuanate that I was not their target for an equally stupid reason. There would be a couple of knee surgeries scheduled and other injuries spread around giving a similarly out of preportional response to THEIR actions.
Trespassing? On a sidewalk? Really?
Insane. I suppose they were very lucky they were not black too, eh?
