Catholic Archbishop: Calls Sex Education "Neo-Marxist" and "Totalitarian"
Argentina: The archbishop of La Plata and president of the Commission of Catholic Education of the Bishopric, monsignor Héctor Aguer, called a new government sex education manual for teachers "totalitarian" and "neo-marxist". The bishop's remarks came in response to a new 302-page Argentine government sex education manual aimed at teachers. The manual, released jointly by the government health and education departments, is based on AIDS programs from the UN.
The archbishop criticized the book for inculcating into children and adolescents the right to sex as a human right, without mentioning love, responsibility, marriage and family as a life project, and also for presenting a neo-marxist vision of sexuality [whatever that means]
The irony of the Catholic church calling a book totalitarian seems to have escaped monsignor Aguer. When is the Catholic Church going to get it that trying to control peoples' sex lives is not a winning strategy? [momento24]
