TV's 'Xena' Lucy Lawless Does Her First Nude Role
For her first nude role on television, Lucy Lawless, star of the long-running series Xena: Warrior Princess and Battlestar Galactica, had to hit the gym. "I do have to work out. Being naked on-screen is no fun," said the 41-year-old actress. Lawless is playing Lucretia in the upcoming television production of Spartacus: Blood and Sand, which will air on the Starz network in January 2010. According to producer Steven DeKnight, this new series of the famous epic of Roman gladiators will have "a death toll like nothing you've seen on television before." It sounds like there will be just as much nudity, too.
Lawless told reporters that she was offered a merkin for her full-frontal nude scenes, but since one of her co-stars insisted on being fully naked while filming those scenes, she didn't use it. Ultimately, Lawless says that she was uncomfortable with the nudity. "It's the first time I had to do a sex scene; I try to think of myself as a modern woman but, honestly, I went home and had to go straight to bed. It was so stressful," she said. However, she insists that the mini-series will be a must-see not only because of her nude scenes but also those of newcomer Andy Whitfield. She adds, "There's full frontal male nudity. You see plenty, trust me. I'm a little traumatized." If the Warrior Princess is traumatized, then our interest is definitely piqued.
